New Japan Pro-Wrestling partnered with AEW for their third annual Forbidden Door show last night (June 30). All three have taken place in the United States, and while members of the All Elite roster are featured on NJPW cards in both the U.S. and Japan fairly regularly, AEW and New Japan have never co-promoted a show in the latter’s home country.
That will change next January. It was announced during Forbidden Door that a new sho called Wrestle Dynasty will take place in the Tokyo Dome on Sun., Jan. 5, 2025 — the day after Wrestle Kingdom, New Japan’s biggest event of the year in the same building. In addition to AEW, their mutual partner CMLL’s logo was on the graphic, along with NJPW’s sister promotion Stardom and the Tony Khan-owned Ring of Honor.
New Japan has plenty of history with each. ROH was its main American partner on and off prior to Khan purchasing the company. NJPW’s held joint shows with Stardom, the joshi (women’s wrestling) promotion it now officially owns, in the past. Every year they promote Fantasicamania tours with Mexico’s CMLL. And of course there’s Forbidden Door. But this will be the first time New Japan brings all those companies together for a show.
The teaser they’ve released plays on the Forbidden Door theme, with the voiceover saying, “The Door finally opens on Japan”.

AEW’s already announced World’s End for the weekend before, so it will be interesting to see how available TK makes his stars for this event. Khan also said at the post-Forbidden Door presser that they’ll still run Dynamite the Wednesday after Wrestle Dynasty. New Japan typically announces full cards for their shows weeks in advance.
Excited for more cross-promotional action?
