Triller
Bryan Danielson has been telling everyone that his neck isn’t great heading into his first round match in the 2024 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. And while facing New Japan’s Shingo Takagi in that match at Forbidden Door, Danielson’s neck quickly became as big a plot point as his quest to win the Owen Cup and punch his ticket to a World title match at All In.

Not that fans — some of whom may have been anticipated this rematch since the last time the two Dragons faced off in 2010 — needed another reason to get fired up for this one.
Bryan sold a neck injury from that point on, especially after each man hit the other with a superplex and Takagi followed up his with a vicious sliding clothesline. He took another one, along with Shingo’s Made In Japan finisher. But the AEW star kicked out as his old rival Nigel McGuinness begged for someone to save Danielson from himself from the announce desk.
The American Dragon used it to bait Takagi in for another sliding clothesline, which he turned in a submission. NJPW’s Dragon got free of that, hitting a Busaiku Knee as the crowd in Long Island chanted “YES!”

They continued that old WWE chant as Bryan kicked his opponent’s head in, then locked in a triangle. Shingo powered out of that, but had to verbally submit to prevent Danielson from breaking his arm.
A heck of a match, and another one is coming as Danielson heads to Beach Break this Wednesday to face PAC in the second round.
